MARAZION TO PRAA SANDS Stage 36 (10th Sept 2009)

We arrived at at 8 am left our bags at the hotel and caught a 2A bus to then followed road to edge of town with a right turn down steps to cliff edge. A brief beach scramble leads to steps up onto the low crumbly cliffs before Maen Dhu point where we watched 2 seals. There are tremendous and changing views of St. Michaels Mount. At the Beach Cafe is right by the path and serves brilliant cakes. After this the low cliffs are eroding away and soft going is slow. A badly signed diversion inland avoids a tough scramble along a rocky beach, followed by a climb back up to . has stunning views from Carn Du to the . The path follows then out to another point before passing right by the International Music Centre in a converted manor house. An undulating clifftop walk above sandy leads round Hoe Point to where we had a pub lunch then caught the 2 bus from the Post Office back to Penzance.

Total time 5hrs, Total distance 10.2km, Ascent 320m

The South West Coast Path is the longest of the official UK National Trails, running from Minehead in Somerset round the English south west peninsula coast to Poole in Dorset. The total length is just over 1000 kilometres or, more precisely, 630 miles. Only very dedicated walkers could contemplate completing the whole walk in one go, although plenty of people have done just this. Received opinion is that it would take around 6 weeks, even for the most dedicated.
